Itinerary
Every part can be changed to suit your group.
-
Day 1 Munich
Our driver meets you at Munich Airport and takes you to your hotel in the city centre. In the evening your guide leads a first walk from Odeonsplatz past the Theatine Church and the Feldherrnhalle to Marienplatz, lit up after dark. Dinner is in a traditional brewery restaurant, where you can try white sausages, roast pork with crackling and a fresh Helles beer.
-
Day 2 Munich highlights
A full day in the Bavarian capital. Visit the Residenz, the city palace of the Wittelsbach kings with its treasury and Antiquarium, then browse the Viktualienmarkt with its stalls of cheese, sausages and flowers. After lunch walk into the English Garden to see the surfers on the Eisbach and the Chinese Tower beer garden. In the evening you may join the crowds at the Hofbräuhaus, the most famous beer hall in the world.
-
Day 3 Garmisch and the Zugspitze
The coach takes you south into the mountains to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, famous for the 1936 Winter Olympics. A cogwheel train climbs through forests and a tunnel to the Zugspitze glacier, and a cable car brings you to the summit at 2,962 metres, the highest point in Germany. On a clear day you see more than 400 peaks in four countries. Afternoon stroll through Partenkirchen's Ludwigstrasse with its painted houses.
-
Day 4 Oberammergau and Linderhof
In the morning you visit Oberammergau, a village of woodcarvers whose houses are covered with colourful frescoes called Lüftlmalerei, and home of the famous Passion Play. Stop at Ettal Abbey, a baroque monastery where monks still brew beer and liqueur. In the afternoon tour Linderhof Palace, the smallest of King Ludwig II's palaces and the only one he saw finished, with its Venus Grotto and terraced gardens.
-
Day 5 Berchtesgaden
Drive east along the German Alpine Road to Berchtesgaden. An electric boat glides silently across the emerald Königssee, and the boatman plays his trumpet to show you the famous echo against the rock walls. Visit the red-domed chapel of St. Bartholomä on the shore. From May to October a special bus and a brass-lined lift take you up to the Kehlsteinhaus, the Eagle's Nest, with views over the Alps and Salzburg.
-
Day 6 Salzburg or Munich departure
After breakfast in Berchtesgaden you can choose: a transfer to Salzburg Airport, only 30 minutes away across the Austrian border, with time for a quick walk through Mozart's old town if your flight is late; or a drive back to Munich Airport, about two and a half hours away. Our team helps you choose the best connection for your flight.
