Itinerary Details
Day 1: Hanoi to Ha Giang – Into the Highlands
Leave Hanoi behind as you head north toward Ha Giang — a gateway to Vietnam’s final frontier. The journey takes you through peaceful countryside and rolling hills. Upon arrival in Ha Giang city, check into a local guesthouse or eco-lodge surrounded by forests and valleys. Enjoy a quiet evening before the mountain adventure begins.
Day 2: Quan Ba – Dong Van – Road of Legends
Begin the legendary Ha Giang Loop, one of Asia’s most scenic mountain drives. Stop at Heaven’s Gate Pass for panoramic views of Tam Son Valley and the famous Twin Mountains. Visit a Hmong village and continue through deep canyons and winding passes to Dong Van. En route, explore ancient clay houses, peaceful rice terraces, and view dramatic cliff landscapes that seem untouched by time.
Day 3: Dong Van to Meo Vac – The Happiness Road
In the morning, explore Dong Van Old Quarter and local ethnic markets. Then drive along Ma Pi Leng Pass — often called the “King of all Passes in Vietnam” — which snakes between vertical cliffs and deep valleys. Stop for photos at Sky Walk or take a short hike above the Nho Que River. Arrive in Meo Vac and settle into a mountain lodge nestled in quiet nature.
Day 4: Local Market & Return to Ha Giang
If timing aligns, visit a highland ethnic market (such as Meo Vac Sunday Market or Lung Phin Market), where Hmong, Dao, Tay, and Lo Lo people gather in colorful outfits to trade and socialize. This is not just a market — it’s a cultural celebration. Afterward, begin the drive back toward Ha Giang, stopping at traditional villages and hidden viewpoints along the way.
Day 5: Ha Giang to Hanoi – Back to the Capital
After breakfast, drive back to Hanoi with stops for scenic breaks and short walks. Return by late afternoon, ending your journey with a new appreciation for the wild, rugged, and deeply human spirit of Vietnam’s far north.
