Itinerary Details
Day 1: Hanoi to Mai Chau – Welcome to the Valley
Depart Hanoi for a scenic 3.5-hour drive into the hills. Arrive in Mai Chau, a peaceful valley inhabited by the White Thai ethnic group. Check in to a traditional stilt house or eco-lodge surrounded by rice fields. In the afternoon, walk or cycle through nearby villages, meet friendly locals weaving brocade by hand, and enjoy the stunning views of limestone cliffs rising above the valley. Evening at leisure under the stars.
Day 2: Pu Luong Nature Reserve – Forest Trails & Hidden Villages
After breakfast, travel deeper into the countryside to Pu Luong Nature Reserve. The road winds through rice terraces and river valleys before reaching your mountain retreat. In the afternoon, take a gentle trek to nearby Thai villages such as Don or Kho Muong. Enjoy encounters with local farmers, bamboo water wheels, and the soft rhythm of rural life. Return to your lodge for a quiet night surrounded by nature.
Day 3: Terrace Walks & Cultural Connections
Start the day with a longer hike through Pu Luong’s stunning terrace systems and bamboo forests. Walk across suspension bridges, pass through forested hills, and reach remote hamlets untouched by tourism. Learn how locals cultivate rice using traditional methods and share stories with your guide about the customs of the region. Return for a well-deserved rest or an herbal bath offered at the lodge.
Day 4: Back to Hanoi – Farewell to the Mountains
After breakfast, enjoy your last moments in the cool air and green scenery before returning to Hanoi. Stop along the way for countryside photos or a visit to a local market. Arrive in the capital in the late afternoon, carrying with you the calm and connection of the northern hills.
